Hagé International strengthens co-operation among melon suppliers
Barendrecht, 19 January 2012 - Melons from overseas are a key
component of Greenery subsidiary Hagé International's fruit and
vegetable range. Partnerships with carefully selected growers from
various countries enable Hagé International to meet customer demand
for a consistently safe, high-quality product all year round.
Hagé International markets melons throughout the year. Melons
sold between May and September are from Spain; those sold from
September to March come from Brazil. From December until May, Hagé
International imports melons from Central America with an overlap
of a few months with shipments from Brazil and Central America.
This season's imports from Central America comprise the following
varieties: Galia and Cantaloupe melons from Honduras, Honey Dew
from Costa Rica, Panama and Guatamala, and watermelons from
Panama.
Product Manager for Melons & Kiwis Rob Weemering has high
hopes for the forthcoming Central American melon season. "We have
achieved co-operation with our current growers through the
continued development of melon varieties and by maximising volumes.
We've also set up growing programmes with our growers based on
customer demand. This approach and the steps we've taken ensure
that we can deliver exactly what customers want."
Co-operation
The co-operation with growers is a win-win situation for Hagé
International. "We supply melons and also provide excellent quality
and reliable service," explains Rob Weemering. Hagé International
provides grower guidance and supports suppliers in developing new
varieties. This ensures growers supply premium quality products
that comply with European statutory requirements and other
essential food safety standards such as the Maximum Residue Level
(MRL).
Satisfaction
An increase in customers - and more orders from regular,
returning customers - clearly indicates that they are
satisfied with the melons. According to Alan Guttmann, President of
Fresh Quest, melon grower in Honduras and Guatamala, "Last year was
Fresh Quest's first year exporting fruit from Central America to
Europe. Our experience was overwhelmingly positive. Working with
Hagé International was very positive, which is why we are working
together again and growing the programme quite
aggressively. This season we will add Galia and Yellow
Honeydew to our Cantaloupe programme. We will export from both our
farms: Exportadora Costa Sur in Honduras and Agroexportadora
Mundial in Guatemala. We are very happy to be working with
Hagé International / The Greenery again and we are confident
that our extended range will be successful with new and returning
customers. We see a very bright future for our melons."
